An Examination Horary: Will I pass the Diplomate in Anesthesiology Oral Revalida?

The querent asked me about passing her upcoming anesthesiology diplomat oral examination. It is noteworthy that two charts were cast for the same querent and the same question in a space of 5 months. She asked the second question days before her examination.

The Chart Cast in August 2021

Considerations

  1. The Ascendant and its ruler.
  2. The Ninth House and its ruler, but also the Tenth House and its ruler.
  3. The Moon and its ruler
  4. Mercury as the natural significator of memory, speech, and the medical profession.

Judgment

Virgo is rising and is not in the early or late degrees of the sign. However, the planetary hour, which is Jupiter, is not in harmony by triplicity or rulership with the Ascendant. The Moon is not void-of-course.

We begin with the Ascendant and see its ruler, Mercury, is also the ruler of the Midheaven. She is in the sign of her nocturnal rulership and exaltation in Virgo and conjunct the Ascendant (considered the 5-degree orb). Mercury has separated from Mars (which naturally signifies pain) portends the examination and her medical specialization. She is not in aspect to the other malefic, Saturn. The status of Mercury is one testimony of a successful outcome.

Our attention is now on the ruler of the Ninth House, where the fortunate North Node tenants. Venus rules the house with Taurus on the cusp. She is in her diurnal rulership in Libra and in the angular Ascendant. The testimony of the Ninth House and its ruler is the second testimony for passing the examination.

The Moon naturally signifies the mind and the quesited matter. Although we see her conjunct retrograde Saturn in his diurnal rulership, this is with reception. Their presence in the Fifth House of good fortune is making both planets fortunate.

The testimonies are unanimous, so I have judged the querent will pass her diplomat oral examination.

The Chart Cast in January 2022

Considerations

  1. The Ascendant and its ruler.
  2. The Ninth House and its ruler, but also the Tenth House and its ruler.
  3. The Moon and its ruler
  4. Mercury as the natural significator of memory, speech, and the medical profession.

Judgment

Aries is rising and is in the late degrees of the sign. The chart is not radical because the Ascendant is not in harmony with its planetary hour by ruler and/or triplicity. The Moon is void-of-course. With all these considered, I still judged the chart.

Mars and the Sun rule the Ascendant. We see Mars in the sign of his exaltation in Capricorn in the Ninth House. His application by sextile to Jupiter, the dignified ruler of the Ninth House and as the benevolent planet in the daytime chart, shows a positive testimony (although there is a negative reception with Mars in Jupiter’s fall). It is also noteworthy that Mars is the exaltation ruler of the Tenth House and his condition supports the testimony of the success.

We will also seek testimony from the Sun as the Ascendant’s exaltation ruler. The Sun is in the sign of his detriment in Aquarius but is enjoying multiple accidental dignities. We see him in the angular Tenth House, where his ruler Saturn perfectly receives him in the sign of his domicile and diurnal triplicity. The Sun, a masculine planet, in a masculine sign, and above the horizon, is also is what is called In Hayz. From all these, we now have a second testimony for a potentially successful examination.

The next testimony we seek is from the Moon and its ruler. As mentioned earlier, the Moon is void-of-course, but with the benevolent planet ruling the Moon, there could be good that comes out from it. Her presence in the Ninth House tells us about her question regarding the examination. Jupiter rules the Moon and we see him in his rulership in Pisces and in the house of his rejoicing in the Eleventh House, unimpeded. The testimony from the Moon’s ruler offers a positive outlook.

Mercury is the last planet we seek testimony. We find him retrograde in Capricorn in the Tenth House. While we consider retrogradation as an affliction, under the context of an examination, we interpret this as having an excellent recall. Her presence in the Tenth House also shows her capacity to express her thoughts clearly.

In this chart, we see the unanimity of the testimonies, pointing that she will pass the oral examination.

Results

On March 2, 2022, the querent relayed to me she passed the oral revalida. Interestingly, the day she shared the news is after transiting, Mars has separated from Mercury of the horary chart. She also mentioned that she had a hard time with the exam and is quite doubtful about whether she will pass. Looking back at the charts, we see this from the Moon conjunct Saturn retrograde of the August 2021 chart and the Sun in the sign of his detriment conjunct Saturn of the January 2022 chart.
